Guntersville Parks and Recreation would like to congratulate our 11-12 Boys for winning the ARPA District 2 Basketball Tournament in Huntsville this past weekend. They went undefeated through the Tournament (4-0) and defeated a strong Huntsville Lakewood Team in the championship game. The team is comprised of participants in our Recreation plus Program that we implemented this year. I would also like to congratulate our 9-10 Boys for placing 2nd in the ARPA District 2 Basketball Tournament this past weekend in Boaz. They went 3-1 in the tournament, only losing to our county foe Arab in the finals. These boys also participated in the Recreation plus program this year as well. It has been 20 years since our program has had a boys’ team win ARPA District Tournament. Our 9-10 girls program went as far as finishing 3rd in the State in 2008 under the direction of Head coach David Wood.
Both of these teams have qualified and are going to the ARPA State Tournament in Gadsden, Alabama March 11th-13th. We look forward supporting them as they represent our community in Gadsden and we feel confident that our boys are up for the challenge.
