The Guntersville Aquacats swam themselves into a fourth place victory Saturday at the District Swim Meet in Cullman.
Guntersville placed fourth with 223, Cullman third with 266, Scottsboro second with 424 and Madison placing first with 760.
The scores also included Albertville placing fifth with 175, Arab placing sixth with 155 and Boaz placing seventh with 97.
"We battled Cullman for most of the meet," said Debby Roberts, coach for the Aquacats. "I feel really good about where we placed. The teams that beat us were year around teams and we're just a summer team, so I'm really happy with the outcome."
During the District meet, the Aquacats had 19 individual state qualifiers including 18 medalists.
Gold Medal winners were Mark Payne and Judson Burney.
"We have 11 state-qualifying medley relay teams and 7 state-qualifying freestyle relay teams," said Roberts proudly. "Cullman has such a great facility. We had two wonderful days where the kids dropped a lot of time. They really did their best."
The qualifying members of the Aquacats will now be preparing for the State Swim Meet in Valley on August 29th, 30th and 31st.
They will be competing as a district and a team.
"For the those who didn't qualify, last weekend was the end of their season, but for those who did, they go onto State," Roberts continued. "After our State Competition our season will be complete."
Roberts said the Aquacats will host an end if the year banquet Thursday to present swimmers with medals and awards for the 2010 season.
