The Guntersville Aquacats came home from the State Swim meet in Valley with an 8th place finish with 803 points.
There were 29 teams that competed in the State meet on July 29th, 30th and 31st; and according to Debby Roberts, swim coach for the Aquacats, this year was the first time the event had team points and trophies.
Roberts said the meet went very well.
"It was hot, very hot," Roberts recalled about the heat. "But it was a great weekend, and we feel pleased about our spot. All the cities that placed ahead of us have indoor facilities and year-round swimming, so we feel like it's a good showing for our little community to come in 8th place."
The Aquacats brought home 35 medals in 8th place or better during the meet.
"We took 49 swimmers to state this year," Roberts said. "It was a good number, I've taken as few as seven one year, but you can really tell the dedication in our swimmers and our parents," Roberts continued. "We're very proud."
The 2010 swimming season has ended for the Aquacats and will begin again in May 2011.
