
The Marshall County Retired and Senior Volunteer Program will be offering the following opportunities this February. Please come by the RSVP office to sign up. For more information, call RSVP, 571-7734.
Computer classes with books have an additional fee. At the end of class, books may be kept or returned for refund if not marked up. All computer classes require a Flash Drive, 1 Gigabyte minimum.
• Beginning Guitar: Jennie McBride will offer a 4-wk class for absolute beginners to the guitar. Classes will be Tuesdays at 10am starting Feb 2. If you have ever wanted to learn now is your opportunity. Playing is good for your health, keeps your mind active and gives you a sense of accomplishment. Each student will need a 6-string acoustic guitar, a music stand and the willingness to learn. Cost $20 .
• Colored Pencil Techniques: Nancy Hughes will teach beginners techniques that will incorporate drawing and painting with colored pencils. Starting Feb 3 at 2pm, 6 sessions, Cost $35, includes a student supply pack to use in class and to take home. Register by Jan 21
• Vista Part I (2 classes offered) – 4 sessions, Wednesdays Morning Class - 9:00-11:30 a.m, or Afternoon Class 1-3:30pm., starting February 3rd, $20. Book $20. Course will cover: Keyboard and mouse, the Desktop, parts of a window, and how to adjust mouse settings, desktop properties, perform system maintenance, open “Windows Explorer”, determine the size of a document, and using “Windows Explorer” transfer data to an from a flash drive. Cut and paste, write a short letter in Word, correct errors in a letter, learn to use “save”, be able to write to a CD, be able to print a document.
• Healthy Heart Month Class: Back by popular demand, Linda Bray, will present American Heart Assoc healthier life style info. A dietician will cover foods, high blood pressure, free screening, physical activity and stroke risk factors, Feb 4, 9am, cost $5
• Genealogy Research – 4 sessions, Fridays form 9:30 – 11:30am, starting February 5, $20. Students will learn how to use the Ancestry.com on-line research site. The Family Tree Maker program is available on all computers for genealogy documentation. The first part of each class will be instruction and the last part will be doing actual research. Students need to bring family information they want to research. A basic knowledge of genealogy is required.
• Decorating Height and Dimension: How large should flower arrangements be in proportion to your table? How tall is a lamp? How can I make my room appear longer? Narrower? Have a higher ceiling? How do I arrange furniture in my space? Learn from a decorating expert February 8 at 1pm. Come with questions. Cost $5.
• Word 2007 Advanced – 3 Thursdays, from 1-3:30pm, starting February 18th, $15. Book $25. Advanced course in Microsoft Word - Use of tables, table of contents, styles, labels and envelopes. Homework will be assigned. Student must have access to a PC with Word to do homework assignments have completed the Beg. & Int. Word courses and bring a flash drive to class.
• Wildgame Cooking: Learn from the experts! Robert, Mark and Leif Thornton, will open the wildgame cooking area of their home to 10 lucky cooks. They will start cooking in the morning in order for you to taste finished dishes. They will cover meat preparation, recipes, cuts of meat and much more, February 18th. Be at RSVP at 5:30pm to ride the van to the Thorntons. Cost $15, covers food, drinks and transportation.
• Book Club - would like for you to join them on the 4th Tuesday of the month at 1pm. The club has selected books for the first 6 months in 2010. They are posted on our website www.mcrsvp.org on the current events page. No charge. Each member is responsible for getting and reading the book selection. February 23rd ’s selection is High Adventure by Sam Harvey, editor of the Advertiser Gleam. Books are available at RSVP and at the Gleam.
• AARP Driving Safety Class: Billie Ellen Simpson will teach an 8 hour driving safety class for 4 hrs each day from 8:30am to 12:30pm on both February 25 and 26. Cost $12 to AARP members and $14 non-members. No driving.
