A Guntersville police officer shot a man overnight Thursday after the man apparently tried to ram another officer with his vehicle.
A Department spokesperson said the officers were out checking road conditions on AL Highway 227 and were headed toward downtown Guntersville when they noticed a vehicle inside a wooded area near the lake.
The officer’s headlights apparently caught the rear reflectors of the car as they were passing by just before midnight. As the officers investigated further they became aware of a man walking near the vehicle.
When they went to check on the man, police say he ran and jumped in the car and attempted to run over one of the officers.
The other officer fired shots into the car, striking the man and ending the attempt to run over his fellow officer.
Med Flight transported the driver of the vehicle, Alex Morton, 21, of Guntersville to Huntsville Hospital. No officers were physically hurt in the altercation/
Police also found a bag of materials used in the making of methamphetamine at the scene.
According to police, Morton has had prior arrest related to drugs.
