The Guntersville City Council continued discussions of a city employee sick bank at there meeting on Tuesday night.
Mayor Bob Hembree and the council met in a work session prior to the meeting to listen to a report on the subject from the city’s personnel director.
Hembree said the main idea behind the Sick leave donation policy is to allow employees of the city to be able to donate their sick leave days to other members who are in need.
The council will continued to work on the details and the Mayor is hopeful a finalized plan will be presented to the council soon.
The Council held public hearing to consider the rezoning of property located at 1201 Gunter Ave. The property, owned by Joey Duncan, was zoned Q BG-1A and being requested changed to BG-1R.
There was no argument for or against the rezoning and the council passed the motion unanimously.
The Council also held a hearing on rezoning the adjacent property at 1211 Gunter Ave and Adjacent Lots 14 and 16 from BR to BG-1R. This motion also passed unanimously.
Hembree said the BG-1R designation will allow business on the property to serve beer and wine, but will not allow lounges in the area.
The property is home to the Rock House Eatery.
The Council also set a public hearing to consider a lounge license for Shelia Fuller, doing business Earl on the Avenue Sports Pub and Grill, located at 2044 Gunter Avenue. That’s the former location of Rockingham’s Sports Bar, which is now vacant.
A public hearing to consider an off premise beer and wine license for Guntersville Foodland’s Plus was set. The new store plans to open in the vacant spot across from Guntersville High School in the old Southern Family Markets location.
The Council also voted on three items that were not in the budget. All three items fall under the bid law of $15,000, but due to the fact that the items are not budgeted, the council’s approval was needed to proceed.
Mayor Hembree said the Fuel Tank at the Air Port needs the inside repainted. The air port uses the tank to sell fuel to air strip users. The low bid for the job came in at $13,345.00.
One of the hangers at the airport also needed repair and the cost came to $3,186.92.
The Mayor also asked the council to act on the matter of repairs to the City shop roof. The roof has been damaged for some time and leaks during heavy rain.
Hembree said the city has received bids in excess of 100,000 to repair the roof, but have been approached by a provider that can do a membrane repair for a fraction of the cost.
“It would get the water off, clean out the drains, and then apply a membrane roof for a cost of 8,750.00,” Hembree said.
The city building inspector has checked the specks and feels this is the best option at this time.
