Over 90 volunteers from across Marshall County helped to wrap, pack then deliver gifts to area elderly and homebound during the Christmas Holidays.
The group of CASA volunteers delivered 220 Christmas food and gift boxes on Monday, December 19th.
"Each city of Marshall County had deserving clients who were so thrilled to see our volunteers and know that we cared about and remembered them this Christmas,” said Shirley Holland, Executive Director of CASA. “The best thing of all was the hug and smile on the face of the elderly or homebound who were as excited about the visit as they were the gift box.
"With the support of so many, we were able to deliver above what we could hope dream or imagine"
“Volunteers from almost all area charities helped in one aspect or another to help make this such a success this year,” Holland said. “The United Way was supportive as always.”
The program fills boxes with food, personal hygiene products and comfort items for homebound residents who cannot get out to purchase the items themselves. They then deliver the boxes and visit with the residents.
Each box contained a ham, canned corn, green beans, cranberry sauce, canned yams, fresh sweet potatoes, fruit cakes from the Guntersville Civitans Club, homemade cookies from individuals and The Hampton Inn in Guntersville, personal hygiene gift bags from The Salvation Army in Guntersville, Bibles or blankets, shampoo gift sets from the Marshall County Red Cross, fruit from Piggly Wiggly stores in Marshall County and more.
“This is always one of our special projects for the year to help our clients remain at home living with safety and dignity as they age in place,” Holland added.
Holland feels the project is so important to CASA’s clients that she plans to launch a similar BBQ Basket drive in July.
