Brief unannounced showers didn’t stop bikers and community members from turning out to the 4th annual Bikers for MDA which was held at the Civitan Park from Wednesday, Aug 18th through Sunday, August 22nd.
The five day event was filled with Barbeque, roasted corn, hotdogs, trolley rides and entertainment that was geared towards the whole family.
Musical entertainment from the Christian Motorcycle Association tent included bands New Grace, Salvation and Faith Train and singers Jewell and Jim Harris.
Other performing artists that performed over the weekend were The Kentucky Headhunters, Crossfire, Hidden Element and Fat Momma.
Merchant vendors lined the streets of the Civitan Park with Native American jewelry and artifacts, biker head-gear, t-shirts, buttons and smiling faces.
"Everything went great," said Ron Heath, event coordinator for the Bikers for MDA. "Everybody just loved it and the concerts were a smash."
Heath, who doesn’t have the full headcount on the weekend crowd as of yet, is optimistic that thousands turned out for the event.
"Last year we had over 5,000 people that came out. That number included bikes, people that came out for the concerts, the poker run, bike show and all the other events we hosted," Heath continued. "And we had a really great crowd this year too. We should have a good estimate of how many people we had this year and how much money we raised by the end of the week."
A portion of all proceeds from the event will go to the Muscular Dystrophy Association.
