"Consider how the lilies grow. They do not labor or spin. Yet I tell you, not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these." Luke 12:27
Many experts believe that the amazing flower discussed so prominently in scripture could only be the Iris. The colors that are displayed on the petals of the Iris are hard to match. The wide ranges of blooms that fall into the Iris family allow gardeners to enjoy those breath-taking colors from spring well into fall. Irises are worth the honor bestowed on them by those that penned the scriptures.
The splendor of the Iris has been coloring the gardens around Guntersville and recently some of these gardens were featured in the annual Region 24 Iris Society Garden Tour. Iris lovers and flower lovers in general traveled from as far away as Mississippi and all over the Northern portion of Alabama to view these spectacular gardens and see the many ways Irises can be used to liven up the landscape.
The yards that were featured this year included three in Guntersville and two in Southeast Huntsville. Lunch for the event was held at Church of the Epiphany Episcopal Church.
The Northeast Alabama Iris and Daylily Society was host for the entire event. The group holds meetings on the fourth Thursday of each month. Wally Kistler holds the position of president for the group and invites gardeners of all ages, talents, and interests to come and be a part of their gatherings. The meetings are held at the Guntersville Recreation Center.
