Human beings frequently think that they are smarter than they really are. They take credit for things that they don’t do.
I understand that PJ spent hours hovering over her computer looking at sites relating to dogs. Little dogs, big dogs; dogs that are easy to teach, dogs that are guardians, and dogs that are just pets. Just plain, ordinary dogs that just want someone to love them. It was understandable one should do some study before having a dog.
After weeks of her doing her “hovering” thing, her husband followed suit. They sat at their computers studying various breeds of dogs. They considered unusual ones, (Shiatsu) and plain ones (Cocker Spaniel). They checked backgrounds and health statistics. They visited the local animal shelter for the right dog.
Eventually they found a website selling little dogs that were non-allergenic, quick to train, and with good dispositions. They contacted the website and arranged to come and see me.
Saturday morning came. They arrived, after getting lost several times. (If they would have had a dog they would not have gotten lost at all) My parents, and some other dogs, met them when they arrived. Everyone was not welcome at my place because some folks were known to be mean and heartless.
Of course the minute they came in, those haughty Schnauzers came out to see them. As everyone could see, they were a bit snooty. They were totally different than we Schnoodles were. We aren’t the snobby purebred type, just a combination of the Schnauzer for a touch of sophistication, and of the Poodle for good manners. We were just four little balls of fluff that no one, with any common sense at all, could ignore.
I found out that PJ wanted a female pup. While all my siblings ran under couches and chairs and hid in corners, I managed to keep getting underfoot. Since we all looked alike, she kept picking me up and turning me upside down to check something of other. It was a bit bothersome, but I really had decided this couple was the one for me, so I put up with it. Besides, it was hard to keep my sisters and my brother away from her, without her catching on to what I was doing.
Well, needless to say, I won. PJ gave my owner a piece of paper of some kind, then Tom picked me up and hauled me out of the house and held, until PJ took me from him and put me in her lap. I was excited, but I didn’t want to show it. After all I had won PJ right from the start, even though she didn’t realize it. I have now spent four years in training PJ and Tom, and they have come along nicely.
I am proud of myself, for making such an excellent choice from the many applicants I stayed away from, before they arrived.
