"We want to create way for children to express themselves and open the door to a life-long interest in the arts.” Kelleybrooke Brown launched her vision for children and youth with the first classes offered through the Whole Backstage. That first offering has grown into summer camps, year-round classes, and even a competitive drama team. Kelleybrooke sees the potential for so much more. She has a heart for reaching the children and youth and providing them with the tools to dream big dreams and pursue those dreams.
This summer Kelleybrooke Brown has put together some amazing opportunities for the young people in the community. The summer launched with a children's production of "Cinderella." Summer classes of Musical Theater ended recently with an amazing review showcasing each student in a monologue and song.
The youngest children have also had their share of performing opportunities. The Little Actors Camp offered children, ages 3 to 5, a chance to learn about singing, dancing and even creating costumes.
Summer classes will end with Camp Red Carpet and also Musical Theatre Show-offs.
Camp Red Carpet will be held in the mornings from 8:30 am until noon each day. The camp runs from August 1 thru August 5 (Monday thru Friday). Registration is still open and anyone from ages 5 to 15. Classes will allow children and youth to experience theatre on a whole new level.
"Price for the weeklong camp is $130 per child with family discounts being offered. The cost of camp includes tuition, supplies, a camp T-shirt and snack each day. If you have ever considered enrolling your child in theatre classes, but were unsure because of the commitment, this is the perfect opportunity to try it out!"
Musical Theater Show-Offs will also take place from August 1 to August 5. The classes will be held in the afternoons from 1 pm to 5:30 pm each day. Youth from ages 9 to 15 are encouraged to show-off their interest in musical theatre and will be singing in a chorus and performing some creative movement and light choreography when they present a retelling of "The Emperor's New Clothes." Cost for this week long camp is $130.
"Theatre provides an introduction to all of the arts." Kelleybrooke Brown recently mentioned in an interview about the Little Actors Camp. "If we can get them interested now then they will have an interest for life."
She wants people to understand that theater is more than just acting. It involves everything artistic and creative. People can get involved in the technical side of theater through costume development, set design and even lighting and sound. Others may find that standing behind the stand as a manager or director suits their interests.
The stage offers something for everyone. If you have an interest or would like to learn more about the opportunities that theater can open, contact Kelleybrooke Brown atwbschildrenstheatre@gmail.com.
