You know that I, Jake, have never met a dog I didn’t like. Well, today was no different when I went to visit Don and Pat with my master, Tom. Boy, talk about a nice place to romp and play! A huge back yard, all fenced in, not at all like the woods full of bugs, snakes, beetles, and those dawgone wood ticks, ugh!
Percy told me he was somewhere around five years old. His relatives came from a long ways off, somewhere called China as I recall and they were of Pekinese descent. He has the most beautiful long white hair with brown mixed in; it almost made me jealous, even though I am, as you know pretty good lookin’ myself.
I had to tease him a bit and, of course, show off my knowledge.
“Did you know that you were once a Fu Dog?”
Of course he had no idea of what I was talking about. He just sat and looked as me so I went on with my “who really cares” information,
“Lord Buddha, from Luoyang, China, created you by breeding a lion and a monkey. What do you think of that?”
He looked at me and slowly answered, “It is better to be a Chinese purebred, than a half French and half German dog without any breeding at all.”
Hey, this guy put me in my place quickly.
Now the other dog was like me, kind of.
He told me, “My mom was an attractive black Shiatsu who met a traveling rogue along the way; next thing me and four other pups arrived. I’m not sure of my age; how old are you?”
His straightforward and quick answer came before I had time to think! I liked this guy; he wasn’t uppity or bashful, just unassuming and honest. I realized that they were both great. Just plain old dogs like me.
Percy told me how he had been held captive in a cage for three years before Pat and Don saved him, through adoption. He was an unhappy display dog used to advertise the shelter. It’s no wonder he runs like the world is coming to an end when in that back yard.
Cyrus was involved in a car wreck and lost his first master. Later he was adopted by some lonesome semi-truck driver and forced to ride along in the cab. He told me how thankful he was, that the trucker person didn’t find him compatible, and dropped him off at a shelter. That’s where Don and Pat found him.
Both like to eat fresh green beans. Don spends hours in his garden, the dogs a few minutes, but they know what they like!
With my interviews over, I’d like to point out that due to that car wreck, Cyrus is afraid of smoke and loud noises; your pet could have suffered in a similar way, so just love him carefully, okay?
