One of the popular definitions of insanity says that doing things the same way over and over again and expecting different results puts you in at least the neighborhood of insane. Most people do NOT like change especially if that change needs to be paired with some type of sacrifice.
Change drives innovation and success. Without change you dig a rut along your path and anyone who has ever driven on a dirt road knows that the ruts are where you get stuck. To avoid getting hung up in the ruts of life you have to develop an attitude for change.
Tips for Change
· Let go of the need to be right. A mind locked into a certain path will never be opened for new directions. Forget about right or wrong and just choose to try things in an unexpected or different way. When we were first married, my husband had a particular way of doing things – and I had my own way – and never the twain shall meet. It was only when we both began to get beyond our need to be right that we began to find the benefit in the differences.
· Grow a hunger for learning. The more that you desire to know the more you will be open to seeing and doing things in a new light. The Home and Garden channel inspired many changes in my life. Seeing the way that the designers expanded a space with organization and releasing clutter made me hunger to know how to do it in my own home.
· Search out others with a willing heart and a creative spirit. Creativity inspires creativity. I was blessed to meet a man that saw possibility in everything. He took the items that were being discarded by others and made them into masterpieces. Walking through his home inspired me to find ways to do things different from the ordinary and expected.
· Look out for new opportunities in EVERY situation. The thing that lies beyond that opened door depends on the eyes that are seeing. A child can find enjoyment in a box that a grown-up thought was trash. Try to set aside the “way things have always been” and look for the things that you may never even have imagined.
The only way you will make a change in your life is if you decide to do things different from the way you have been doing them. It is okay to be wrong, to make a slip or to ask for help. The key to a new life is to try – and change will come to a heart and mind eager to learn and grow. Avoid the ruts of life and dare to take the road less traveled.
