“Pursue your dream with boldness.” That advice slips through my lips with almost the same effort as breathing. I know that boldness catches the dream. My encouragement flows easily as long as it is others that are in the path. That same encouragement seems to wither up or fall apart the moment I turn to look at my own life. I get stuck.
So, here I sit. The dreams are left dancing around my mind and in my heart. I spin my wheels wondering if now is the time to really step out or how I should begin pursuit. My timidity will force me to miss my dreams and stay stuck in the reality of the moment.
No more!
Nothing changes until something changes and the only thing I can truly change is me. I have to find the courage and tenacity to begin to pursue my own dreams with the boldness that I try to ignite in others.
Breaking Free to Pursue the Dream
1. Start this moment. Right now I will do one thing. Nothing will ever be accomplished in my life if I continue dreaming and never actually get to the doing. It takes action to craft a dream into reality.
2. Accept that I can only do what I can do. I will do that one thing and the rest of my chaotic, overloaded to-do list will have to fall in to place or out of importance. The world will not stop spinning if I am not there to keep it on its axis.
3. No more excuses. There will always be a reason for whatever I want to make a reason. The reality of my journey does not have to be dictated by the circumstances that surround me. I can choose to see the sun despite the clouds, to walk in hope despite the storms, and to expect the dream despite the world.
4. Be honest – with myself and with those around me. I will continue to be where I am until I accept responsibility for my location. I need to open up with the people I trust and find others to encourage me to boldness.
5. Walk in freedom. “I am a slave that knows he is free.” The words come from a song by Ceili Rain but they say it all. I am free – free to pursue my dreams, free to grow to my potential, free to follow my hopes – as long as I remember the Who behind my being and allow that knowledge to grow me into my purpose.
6. Expect to succeed. I listen more to what I say in my own head and through my own lips than all of the words tossed at me. Speaking my own expectations, backed by honesty, encouragement and action will grow me to the place I expect to be.
Today is the day. There is no other day. I will begin to live my life with the knowledge that all that I am rests on the actions and attitude that I have today. I will catch my dream because this moment I will pursue with boldness the purpose for which I was crafted.
